The “Not-a-Guru” Story

Let’s be real: If one more “productivity expert” tells you that the secret to focus is waking up at 5:00 AM and “just building a habit,” I might lose it.

I’m Ashlyn Talley, and I started FocusedRemote because I was tired of seeing brilliant, neurodivergent remote workers—people like you and me—burn out trying to follow advice written for neurotypical brains.

For over five years, I worked as a Support Coordinator in community mental health. I’ve sat with over 100 clients as they navigated the heavy lifting of ADHD and executive function challenges. But I also know the struggle from the inside. When I transitioned to remote work, I realized that without the structure of an office, my focus didn’t just drift—it stayed out at sea.

I spent years obsessively testing every app, timer, and “magic” desk setup to find what actually sticks when the novelty wears off. Spoiler: Most of it doesn’t.

That’s why this site exists. I’m not here to sell you a “cured” life or a 10-step miracle. I’m here to be your researcher. You can expect honest, research-backed reviews of the tools that help us bridge the gap between “I know what to do” and “I’m actually doing it.” I’ll tell you what’s worth the $30 and what is just a glorified digital paperweight.

FocusedRemote is brand new, and honestly, I’m still building the plane while flying it. But I’d rather be honest about the process than pretend I have it all figured out. We’re going to find what works together—one (timer-regulated) step at a time.

Glad you’re here. Now, let’s go find a tool that actually helps you get through that inbox.
